Deadline: August 31st, 2025WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FORWe are looking for a talented and motivated early career scientist holding a PhD in environmental sciences to conduct high-quality research on climate predictability (annual to decadal timescales) with a focus on the role of ocean–atmosphere interactions in the extratropical North Atlantic. Our unit produces decadal predictions operationally, conducting high-impact research on climate predictability in the framework of related European projects and multi-national collaborations and developing applications and services to support climate adaptation. We are now embarking on a new chapter of our journey that will further boost CMCC’s global position in climate change research…Together!To learn more about this opportunity and submit your application, please refer to the following:ROLEThe employee will advance and produce new research on multi-annual to decadal predictability and ocean–atmosphere interactions contributing to different projects.RESPONSIBILITIESThe Research Scientist will join the Climate Variability and Prediction (CLIVAP) division of CMCC and will work in the framework of EU projects and international collaborations of the group supporting ongoing research activities on climate predictability and developing new research on related topics.REQUIREMENTS

• PhD Degree in environmental sciences with relevance to climate.
• Quality publications as fist author (quantity in proportion to post-doctoral experience).
• Experience with the analysis of climate predictions would count as a plus.
• Experience with Python and working with large data sets.
• Excellent knowledge of the English language.

DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

• Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally.
• The Managers will be based in the Bologna CMCC office.
• The appointment period will be initially of 24 months starting from 2025, Oct./Nov., with a gross annual salary range of 40,000–50,000 Euros depending on post-doctoral experience. Tenure can be granted from 2 to 4 years after being appointed as a junior researcher.
• Welfare package, for minimum 12 months contract.
• Flexible working time as per internal policies.
• Support during the immigration process, if needed.
