The Department of Economics in the Faculty of Business and Economics is looking for a temporary full-time (100%) researcher in the field of social sciences (economics, sociology, demography…)
Position
- You will work actively on the preparation of the report on the position of non-EU women on the labour market in Belgium. The research project is funded by the Belgian Institute for the Equality of Women and Men . The project is supervised by Suncica Vujic (Department of Economics, UAntwerpen) and Prof. Nick Deschacht (Department of Economics, KU Leuven).
- The main tasks of the position are to set up the interviews in order to answer the research question on the obstacles for labour market participation of the non-EU women in Belgium. In concrete terms, 5-10 interviews should be conducted with experts (civil society organizations, trade unions, etc.) and 15 interviews with the target group of women of foreign (non-EU) origin. Further to that, to transcribe the interviews and analyse them with the Nvivo software or a similar tool. Finally, to write a concise report, preferably in French (Dutch or English are also possible), using collected interview data.
Profile
- You hold a Master degree in social sciences (economics, sociology, demography…).
- You have an excellent academic track record. The minimum requirement is at least one distinction (68% average grade) or an international equivalent.
- You have a strong interest in research on the labour market position of migrants.
- Experience with the qualitative research methods (conducting interviews, transcribing, analysing via Nvivo (or similar tools) and writing a report using collected interview data is an asset.
- Excellent language skills in spoken and written French and/or Dutch is an asset.
- You have good English language skills that will allow you to communicate within the research team.
- Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies .
- You can work in a group as well as on your own initiative.
- You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
What we offer
- We offer a full-time contract as a researcher for a period of five months, starting from May 1, 2024 or as soon as possible after this date.
- Your gross monthly salary is calculated according to the pay scale for an assistant in the Contract Research Staff category (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
- You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance, a group insurance, an income protection insurance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
