The British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) are seeking an enthusiastic individual with a good
knowledge of, and interest in, birds and a background in volunteer and/or project management,
including the delivery of effective communications, to join the Ringing & Nest Recording
Team. This role will support a network of over 3,000 highly skilled and passionate volunteer
fieldworkers who participate in the BTO/JNCC Ringing and Nest Record Schemes, leading on the
development and delivery of processes underpinning surveyor recruitment, retention and
training. The post-holder will play a key role in maintaining this enthusiastic and motivated
community, ensuring that these long-term demographic datasets to which our volunteers
contribute continue to play a vital role in supporting conservation efforts across Britain
& Ireland.

The post-holder must be able to demonstrate strong communication and project management skills,
with a focus on engaging and supporting volunteers, displaying an energetic approach that
enables them to inspire and enthuse individuals from a wide range of backgrounds. They must
demonstrate the ability to work independently on development and delivery of new initiatives,
presenting proposals to the Head of Scheme for strategic discussion. Direct experience of bird
ringing and/or nest recording would be desirable but is not essential; candidates must,
however, possess sufficient understanding of the aims of the Schemes to enable assessment of
the practicalities of ideas generated and their relevant priority. Prior involvement in
management of citizen science initiatives is also desirable.

This position is based at our HQ in Thetford, Norfolk, although you will be able to work from
home part of the time on a hybrid working regime, and flexi time is also available.
