Title: River Restoration Project Officer

Purpose: Delivering river restoration projects throughout North Norfolk
Reports to: North Norfolk Catchment Team Leader
Location: Office at Bayfield near Holt plus hybrid. Visits across
North-Norfolk catchments with mileage expenses £0.45 per mile.
Job term: Full-time 37.5 per week
Annual Leave Entitlement: 25 days plus 8 days bank holidays pro rata
Salary details: £25,787 to £29,000 pro rata (9% Employer Pension Contribution)

Norfolk Rivers Trust is looking for a project officer to help deliver a series of ambitious
river restoration projects throughout North Norfolk. Working closely with partners, land-owners
and contractors, the selected applicant will help deliver a suite of projects on the rivers
Stiffkey, Hun, Glaven and the Burn. We are looking for someone with experience of designing and
delivering habitat or water-quality improvement projects, who is self-motivated and has a
strong interest in ecology. Experience of CDM or ECOW work would be particularly useful.

The successful applicant will help deliver river restoration and wetland creation projects
within Norfolk, assisting with the full process from land-owner and partner engagement, to
ecological survey and project design, to monitoring. You will also represent Norfolk Rivers
Trust at regular partnership meetings and community events. We are looking for someone with a
passion for rivers and nature, the ability to work closely with partners or independently, and
the drive to help us deliver a series of challenging, exciting restoration projects.

Job purpose

Plan and deliver river and floodplain restoration projects throughout North Norfolk.

Principal responsibilities

  • Writing permits required to deliver projects including planning permission and flood risk
  • Assist with protected species surveys and mitigation
  • Create designs and plans to deliver restoration or habitat improvement projects
  • Supervise contractors on work sites to ensure high quality project delivery
  • Maintaining project databases and lead on reporting to project partners
  • Supporting the production of communications material to further promote and develop
    restoration work in North Norfolk catchments
  • Engaging and contributing to catchment meetings and liaising with partners
  • Work effectively with partners and stakeholders, represent the Trust through catchment
    partnerships and seek opportunities to develop existing and additional mutually beneficial

    required to carry out other such duties as determined by the Trust


  • Minimum HND/BSc in Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Biology or Land Management
    related subject

Experience and knowledge

  • Experience in delivering conservation or habitat improvement projects
  • Familiarity and experience of catchment-scale processes, and how these interact
  • Good knowledge of river ecology and hydrology
  • Experience of managing and working with contractors to implement mitigation measures or
  • Experience of engaging with key stakeholders and working collaboratively with partner
  • Experience in the use of GIS mapping
