Job Description:UOE07 – £39,347 – £46,974CMVM/Edinburgh Medical School/Deanery of Biomedical Sciences/Centre Discovery Brain Sciences/Simons Initiative for the Developing BrainContract Type – Fixed-Term – 2 yearsFull-time – 35 Hours Per WeekWe are looking for a Scientific Administrator and Liaison Officer to deliver the scientific aims of the Centre through day-to-day management of one of its major international collaborations, the Autism Rat Consortium (ARC). Applicant should have extensive research experience showing knowledge of research activity and a PhD or equivalent qualification in neural circuits, cellular physiology or animal behaviour, preferably with some postdoctoral experience.This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week), with the potential for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.The Opportunity:The overall remit of this position it to deliver the scientific aims of the Centre through day-to-day management of one of its major international collaborations, the Autism Rat Consortium (ARC). The post-holder will be the first point of contact for all scientific enquiries within and outwith the ARC and will act at the scientific liaison between the funder, SFARI, SIDB and ARC laboratories in the USA and Europe. The postholder will assist ARC members in areas such as grant availability, education/training and co-ordinate research projects where required. They will manage the educational and training portfolio for the ARC. They will also have knowledge and understanding of the relevant scientific research methodologies, principles and procedures and facilitate the delivery of current translational research and enhance future research endeavours by co-ordinating research themes across ARC.Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A PhD (or PhD near completion) or equivalent qualification in a discipline cognate to the Centre’s aims, i.e. circuit or cellular physiology or animal behaviour, preferably with some postdoctoral experience.
  • Extensive research experience showing knowledge of research activity. This includes experience and demonstrated success in delivering research project results, publishing in high impact peer reviewed journals, and presenting at national and international conferences.
  • Evidence of effectiveness in design and delivery of research projects and show the ability to attract resources to support research, individually or jointly with others, as appropriate to the research area of the Centre.
  • Project and/or people management skills that are identifiable through previous experience.
