SEC-History – Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship
The SEC-History research group within the Arts and Humanities Department at the Open University of Catalonia – Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) invites PhD-holding researchers to express interest in applying for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (PF). We seek to support proposals focused on long-term quantitative studies addressing social stratification and socioeconomic inequalities-with special emphasis on gender and d mographic disparities-using our high-quality individual-level longitudinal data from the unique and widely recognized Barcelona Historical Marriage
Database and Ball Database (Pujadas-Mora et al., 2022). Selected research concepts will be developed into full applications through collaborative mentoring with SEC-History researchers.About usThe SEC-History research group at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) investigates historical processes through interdisciplinary approaches, with a particular focus on socio-demographic transformations and the development of state structures, supported by competitive public funding from the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities.
In this context, the researchers involved in the Marie Skłodowska-Curie initiative are especially interested in the study of inter- and intra-generational transmission of occupations and social positions, marriage formation-including assortative mating-as part of broader processes of social reproduction, and the interplay of these factors with economic inequality and the formation of labour markets from a gender perspective during the pre-industrial and industrial periods. Their work on these topics has been published in leading journals in the fields of Historical Demography and economic history (e.g., Brea-Martinez & Pujadas-Mora, 2019; Pujadas-Mora & Brea-Martinez, 2025; Pujadas-Mora et al., 2023; Pujadas-Mora & Pérez-Artés, 2024). In addition, the group is well known and recognized by the Louis Henry Award of the European Society of Historical Demography for its pioneering contributions to database construction using AI and computer vision technologies. Potential topics of interest for collaboration:-Intergenerational transmission of socioeconomic status and social mobility in the long run
-Health and mortality differences by SES and gender in periods of epidemic shocks
-Individual life-course agency and gendered differences in demographic behaviour
– And related topics that may be proposed by interested applicantsExpressions of Interest
