And you’ll get to see your creations in the hands of millions of people across the UK.As a Senior Engineer (Android), you’ll be part of one of our Engineering teams, applying architectural and engineering principles to define and deliver technology that will better customer experiences, improve efficiency and reduce business costs, helping us to lower prices. With your technical craft, curiosity and experimentation, you’ll use judgement to apply specific techniques to deliver outcomes that support our customers.We use a variety of tech here and you need to be willing to pick up new tools and techniques. We’d also like you to be yourself – analytical, curious and unafraid to challenge the status quo. You’ll be a role model for best practices, championing a customer centric mindset and a passion for finding creative ways to solve problems, mentoring fellow engineers as a progressive member of the engineering community.More about the role

  • You’ll lead the design and development of large-scale high performance services using technologies such as Android and Kotlin • You’ll work in a T-shaped way, doing mostly your Android specialism but have the opportunity to drive the overall testing strategy. • You’ll contribute to the entire product development lifecycle, from roadmap, to delivery, to potential decommissioning too. • You’ll help to drive the product technical roadmap through a deep understanding of technology and your product • You’ll lead the design and support of services that enhance Sainsbury’s capabilities • You’ll be part of a collaborative team that highly values empathy and team spirit • You’ll utilise Test-Driven Development and Pair Programming, where appropriate, and provide coaching to more junior engineers on development practices. • You’ll work in a lean environment to deliver early and often • You’ll guide, support and enable performance within the team through providing technical knowledge, ideas & mentorship

More about you

  • You possess great expertise in engineering practice, including deep knowledge of engineering and architectural principles
  • You are an expert in writing great quality Kotlin code for Android • You have proven experience of software design and implementation, security, cloud services and CI/CD • You’re driven and constantly striving to improve your own knowledge, the team and the division • You’re empathetic and work well with others, and you’re highly collaborative in your ways of working • You are an advocate of agile/lean delivery methodologies • You have a passion for delivering solutions to customers, owning the whole Software Development Lifecycle • You keep up to date with industry trends and emerging tech • You excel at both coaching and mentoring other developers around you, and can adapt your style to suit the individual
  • You can confidently lead complex technical discussions and implementation, and bring the team with you
