About The Role

This is a fantastic opportunity for an innovative and enthusiastic communications specialist to
join Manchester City Council’s award-winning Strategic Communications team with a focus on the
high-profile climate change and zero carbon agendas within the Council, helping deliver on its
ambitions targets of becoming zero carbon by 2038.

We are looking for someone creative and dynamic to join us as Senior Communications Officer. If
you are passionate about tackling climate change in Manchester and want to work in a lively,
hardworking team, then this could be an ideal opportunity for you.

Based in the Strategic Communications team and working closely with the Zero Carbon team, you
will be required to work collaboratively with services across the council working on the
climate change and zero carbon agendas, ranging from HROD, to Parks, Events to Corporate
Estates to identify communications opportunities, research stories and co-ordinate content
development. This will provide a comprehensive communications service to all areas across the
organisation by, providing advice and recommendations on communications strategies and
supporting the delivery of high quality, consistent communications campaigns from planning and
implementation to delivery and evaluation.

About the Candidate

You will be an effective relationship builder with strong project management skills.

You will have a marketing or communications background with a strong track-record in digital
marketing and content creation for a variety of platforms. You will have good writing skills
that are adaptable for a variety of audiences with a with a sharp eye for detail. You will have
proven experience of identifying engaging stories and communications pieces related to policy
implementation or other cross-organisational initiatives.

You will have good knowledge of the climate change agenda, preferably with experience in how to
communicate to drive behaviour change in this area (though this is not essential).

You will be a self-starter with a flexible approach who is able to manage your own time. The
ability to deal with competing priorities and to work to tight deadlines is essential.
