Senior Medical Statistician / Health Data Scientist (Cardiovascular Precision Medicine)

Oxford Population Health (Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford) is a world-renowned centre for population health research and fosters an exceptional interdisciplinary research environment in which to undertake high impact research.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Medical Statistician/Health Data Scientist to join Professor Jemma Hopewell’s Group, an established multi-disciplinary team that focusses on cardiovascular precision medicine research by capitalising on large-scale epidemiological, genetic and multi-omic data from observational and randomized studies in order to identify the causes, consequences and treatments for coronary disease, stroke and arrhythmias, and to determine factors that may help to match patients to the most appropriate therapy. Working with an outstanding team of researchers and collaborators on research funded by the NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Centre (Cardiovascular Theme), the successful candidate will have statistical responsibilities for cutting-edge big data projects using state-of-the-art techniques (e.g. advanced Mendelian randomization, polygenic risk scores, PheWAS, machine learning methods) to provide translational insights into drug development and repurposing.

To be considered, you will have a higher degree (PhD or MSc + substantial relevant work experience) in statistics/health data science/genetic epidemiology or similar. In addition to a strong interest in arrhythmia and cardiovascular research, you will have proven experience of handling large-scale multimodal data (e.g. phenotypic, genomic, proteomic, imaging data), successfully planning and undertaking complex analyses, an excellent understanding of a range of relevant statistical concepts and techniques as well as outstanding programming skills.
