Senior Public Health Practitioner – Family Hubs

Will you rise to the challenge and ensure health improvement and prevention is a key aspect of the established Family Hubs programme led by Children’s services, driving forward the plans for the Infant feeding strand led by Public Health? Also do you have the skills to contribute to other public health programmes including our health in education settings programme called PEACH, rolling out new investment for oral health prevention work, supporting the team involved in suicide prevention and mental health wellbeing partnership working? As this is a fixed term post the focus of the role will change to meet the needs of the team and there may be opportunities to work in other portfolio areas.You will primarily work as part of the ‘babies, children, young people and families’ team that currently operates across Hampshire and Isle of Wight as well as with the Isle of Wight Family Hubs team, so you will have excellent partnership working and team working skills and experience. The post is full time and fixed term for two years. We are a supportive and friendly team, with a passion for using evidence-based approaches to improve population health and wellbeing and developing our team.You will use your talents and experience to coordinate and deliver the final year of the Infant feeding strand of the Family Hubs programme, including oversight of the commissioned elements working with providers and other commissioners responsible for children’s health and prevention services. You will work with the PEACH education consultant and schools to deliver the PEACH programme, awards and network. You will also support suicide prevention and mental health wellbeing partnership working.You will be:

To succeed you’ll also understand the breadth of public policy and be able to work at a population level, translating changes achieved by individuals and communities into health improvement across the community.You will be a good communicator and self-starter, able to be organised, good at team working, reporting progress and effective at seeking agreement for decisions. We support agile and hybrid working. There will be a need to work on the Island to build relationships with partners and to attend face to face meetings approximately once a week, and also to occasionally attend meetings in Winchester (until end of summer 2025). However, the team works agilely from home much of the time using online technology.
