We are looking for an enthusiastic new member to join the Department of Mathematics & Statistics at Lancaster University to play a key role in supporting research systems and IT infrastructure.
As a Research Infrastructure Engineer you will be working in the Mathematics & Statistics IT team. You will be working closely with departmental colleagues but also with IT support colleagues across the university to provide an excellent support service for teaching and research. You will use your varied skills to develop and deliver support for academic, research and support staff within the department. Working with researchers and research teams, you will understand their IT needs and deliver a great IT service.
Applicants for this post should have:
• Deployment, management and maintenance of Linux or Windows workstations and servers
• Experience with at least one Unix-based operating system, including scripting languages ideally in a service environment.
• Experience working in a team-based IT service environment and supporting Linux and Windows systems.
• Excellent analytical, technical and communications skills.
• Ability to work with users to understand requirements and propose solutions appropriate to their requirements.
• A degree, professional qualification, or career experience in a relative field
One or more of the following would be advantageous:
• Use of programming or scripting tools such as Bash, Python, Perl, C# or C++.
• Automated systems for deployment and configuration management (e.g. Ansible/AWX/Puppet).
• Experience of building and managing containerised environments (e.g. Kubernetes).
