We are seeking two enthusiastic and proactive Senior Technicians to join our dynamic technical operations team, which strives to provide a sector leading technical support for FSE and the wider University. With a commitment to customer service excellence and a passion for science and engineering, the Senior Technician will provide an agile technical support service to staff and students to support teaching, research and professional services. FSE’s research and teaching quality is recognised globally; this is an exciting opportunity to join us in Manchester and contribute to the provision of a sector leading technical service.

Overall Purpose of the Job

  • Be part of the workshop’s specialist welding team, providing a high-quality welding and fabrication service to end users across FSE, involving processes such as MIG, TIG, and MMA, in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
  • Demonstrate MIG and TIG techniques to students in undergraduate teaching classes.
  • Support research activities within MECD, employing techniques such as submerged arc welding and narrow gap MIG welding.
