Settlements and Operations Analyst

Main Purpose: The Settlement and Operations Analyst will play a crucial role in our trading operations team, ensuring accurate reconciliation and settlement of transactions while maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This position sits at the intersection of trading, finance, and operations, requiring a thorough professional who can navigate sophisticated data sets and maintain the integrity of our financial processes.Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:Invoice Management and ProcessingOrganize, process, and track incoming invoices and statements in a systematic and timely mannerImplement and maintain efficient invoice tracking systems to ensure timely payments and collectionsVerify invoice accuracy against contractual terms and delivery confirmationsPrepare and distribute regular invoice status reports to relevant stakeholdersFinancial ReconciliationPerform detailed reconciliation of cash values against Coral Profit and Loss statements, ensuring accuracy and completenessConduct daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation processes across multiple trading booksIdentify and document discrepancies between expected and actual financial outcomesBuild and maintain reconciliation templates and procedures to enhance efficiencySettlement ProcessingImplement settlements of invoices and positions with asset managers and counterparties according to established protocolsEnsure compliance with settlement deadlines and contractual termsProcess physical and financial settlements across various energy marketsMaintain accurate settlement records and documentation for audit purposesDiscrepancy ResolutionInvestigate and resolve differences or anomalies in invoices and settlement data, applying analytical skills to identify root causesPerform root cause analysis on recurring settlement issuesDevelop and implement solutions to prevent future discrepanciesDocument resolution processes for knowledge sharing and operational improvementCash Flow CoordinationLiaise with treasury and accounting teams across multiple offices to coordinate cash flows successfullyForecast upcoming settlement requirements to ensure adequate liquiditySupervise and report on cash positions related to trading activitiesContribute to cash management strategies to optimize working capitalDispute ManagementServe as the primary point of contact with TSO and third parties for resolving volume and price disputesCapture and analyze evidence to support Trafigura’s position in disputesNegotiate resolutions that protect the company’s financial interestsDocument dispute outcomes and incorporate lessons learned into future processesCross-Functional TeamworkWork closely with the Deals Desk and Project Manager to ensure alignment of settlement activities with broader business objectivesCoordinate with trading teams to understand transaction details and settlement requirementsSupport risk management initiatives by providing accurate settlement dataContribute to projects committed to improving operational efficiency through execution improvementProfessional Experience and SkillsBachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field2+ years of experience in financial settlement, reconciliation, or related accounting functionsProficiency in financial systems and ability to work in Python and VBAExperience with data analysis and financial reportingAbility to work independently while collaborating effectively with multiple stakeholdersExperience in energy trading operations or commodity markets & knowledge of European power and gas markets and settlement processes would be a plusFamiliarity with ETRM or CTRM systems.Advanced Excel skills and/or experience with Python.Understanding of accounting principles and financial controlsPersonal AttributesMeticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracyStrong problem-solving abilities and analytical approachExcellent communication abilities, both written and verbalResilience and ability to work effectively under pressure and tight deadlinesProactive approach to identifying and resolving issuesExcellent time management and organizational skillsAdaptability to changing priorities and requirementsKey Relationships and Department Overview:Trading teamsFinance departmentOperations departmentAccounting departmentWe are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company!
