The School
School of Human and Social Sciences offers a full range of awards from foundation degrees to undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees. Our courses and areas of expertise include Criminology, Psychology, Education, Addiction Studies, Forensic Science, Nutritional Therapy, Politics and International Relations. Our courses are accredited by professional bodies in the sciences, for example, The British Psychological Society (BPS), Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences, the Federation of Drug and Alcohol Professionals and the Nutritional studies course by Nutritional Therapy Education Commission (NTEC).
The Role
The Deputy Head of School will pro-actively support the Head of School and other senior staff in providing overall leadership, management, vision and direction for the School. Key areas of responsibility involve managing agreed areas of the School’s activities and resources and overseeing the delivery of courses in one of the 3 subject areas (Psychological Sciences or Criminology and Forensic Science or Education and Interdisciplinary Studies), through management and leadership of Course Leaders. This post will also lead on development, and ensure high quality, of specified areas of the provision of teaching, research, knowledge exchange, enterprise and external markets in the UK and overseas as required.
The Person
You will have a higher degree in a subject relevant to any subject within the School and Fellow/Senior Fellow status with the HEA and/or equivalent demonstrable experience/qualification.
The successful candidate will need to have a collegiate and facilitative leadership style which motivates colleagues and gains their trust and respect. You will also have significant curriculum development and Quality Assurance/Enhancement experience. In addition, it is expected that the post holder will have significant and demonstrable experience of line management, financial management, strategic planning and academic leadership.
Team working and commitment to excellent student experience are critical components to this post. Experience of delivering strategic change and of supervising doctoral students to completion is desirable.
