| Position Details | The Department of Sociology invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Demography at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment will commence January 1, 2024 or July 1, 2024, subject to budgetary approval. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Sociology or related field and have relevant teaching and research experience. We are seeking a candidate who can engage and inspire both undergraduate and graduate students in their academic work, and who will show initiative in contributing to the department’s programs, scholarship, and curriculum development. A demonstrated ability to provide expertise, support, and advice on inclusive curriculum and pedagogy are encouraged. We welcome applications from scholars whose research and teaching critically interrogates power, inequalities, and settler colonialism. We seek candidates with research interests and teaching experience in health, income inequality, and quantitative methods. The successful applicant will be expected to teach existing courses offered by the Department, while also developing new courses that extend the department’s curriculum in new directions. The ability to establish an active, externally funded research program is also an important criterion for all applicants. We encourage applications from equity deserving groups that have historically been underrepresented in academia, including Indigenous, Black, and racialized scholars, disabled scholars, 2SLGBTQ+ scholars, scholars from working class backgrounds, and women scholars. Hiring salary will be in the range of $78,000-$92,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Department of Sociology offers a B.A. and M.A. in Sociology. Faculty members may also supervise M.A. or Ph.D. students in the interdisciplinary Cultural, Social, and Political Thought (CSPT) program.
