This post is for a Specialist Doctor in Emergency Medicine at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Emergency Medicine Services at Preston and Chorley are unified under a single Directorate. The successful candidate will be expected to work on both sites. The Specialist Doctor in Emergency Medicine will provide high-quality, patient-centred care in the Emergency Department (ED). The role includes clinical, supervisory, and educational responsibilities, contributing to the effective functioning of the ED.The post-holder will work within the framework of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) standards and guidelines to ensure safe, evidence-based care is delivered to all patients.You will be expected to work a mix of shifts including, days, twilights, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.Main duties of the jobThe post holder will:-

  • Specifically adopt, in conjunction with colleagues, an active role in the delivery of care to ED patients at both EDs at LTHTR .
  • Provide direct care to patients, contribute to multi-disciplinary teams and participate in the delivery of Emergency care to adults and children.
  • Assume a continuous commitment for the care of patients, even if employed less than full-time.
  • Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional development.
  • Exercise the freedom to develop specialist elements of the services to reflect perceived priorities within available resources.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential

  • Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
  • Minimum of 12 years medical experience since primary medical qualification Minimum of 6 years as SAS grade or equivalent in emergency medicine and relevant acute specialties ( a minimum of 4 years in EM)

Desirable

  • Higher qualification: FRCEM (Primary), FRCEM (Intermediate), MRCS, MRCP, etc.

Experience and SkillsEssential

  • Previous UK experience in the speciality for more than 24 months
  • Minimum of 12 years medical experience since primary medical qualification Minimum of 6 years as SAS grade or equivalent in emergency medicine and relevant acute specialties ( a minimum of 4 years in EM)
  • Adheres to professional requirements of annual appraisal, job planning and reviews of performance and progression Demonstrates the professional values and behaviours set out in Good Medical Practice Demonstrated ability to manage patients with complex needs whilst remaining aware of their own limitations Provides safe and effective care for critically ill patients for all ages with specialist help and guidance Ability to lead resuscitation teams and safely transfer critically ill patients Communicates effectively with patients, relatives and carers, placing them at the centre of the care pathway
