Stronger Shores Marine Engagement Officer
Fixed term contract for 36 months

The Stronger Shores project (led by South Tyneside Council) represents a truly innovative
approach working collaboratively with leading academics and Wildlife Trusts and other nature
conservation NGO’s. The project will improve understanding of the benefits of kelp, seagrass
and native oyster habitats with regard to coastal erosion, flood risk, climate change,
biodiversity management and wider benefits.
Stronger Shores brings together the Durham, Northumberland, and Tees Valley Wildlife Trusts, to
deliver a suite of exciting engagement activities. These activities are linked to partners work
on Seagrass, Kelp and Oysters. This will involve Durham Wildlife Trust hosting a Marine
Engagement Officer, as part of the project Integrated Delivery Team, who will work across the
project area from Lindisfarne to Skinningrove.
The Engagement Officer will lead on the delivery of marine engagement work. The role will
incorporate project partner’s work into a cohesive engagement programme across the project area
for three years. This will be the development and delivery of an annual events series, focusing
on public, citizen science, schools and STEM activities. As well as in person events the
Officer will also facilitate online events mirroring the North Sea Wildlife Trust’s highly
successful ‘Living Seas Live’ evening talk’s series. The Officer will have the opportunity to
contribute towards social media and digital documentary short films promoting Stronger Shores
kelp, seagrass and native oyster work.
This role will suite anyone who is passionate about our coastal and marine environments and who
wants to generate that same passion in others across the generations.
Based at Durham Wildlife Trust’s Head Office: Rainton Meadows, Houghton-le-Spring, DH4 6PU,
with an opportunity to work on occasion from partner Trust offices. The Trust is currently
operating hybrid working arrangements, with a split between working from home and at the
office.
