Student Voice Communications Officer 

This post will play a critical role in communicating to our students the impact of our Education and Students strategy, particularly in relation to ‘student voice’, and how student feedback from a wide range of sources is acted upon at Cardiff University.  

Part of the University’s Internal Communications team, the successful candidate will work closely with the Student Engagement Team in Cardiff University’s Learning and Teaching Academy, and a network of school-based Student Engagement Officers. They will be expected to quickly establish relationships with colleagues in this newly expanded team, ensuring they are able to effectively communicate to our students how their feedback is changing the student experience at a local level.  

The post holder will be expected to identify thematic and institution-level communications needs in relation to the student experience, and work closely within this matrixed team to deliver a joined-up view on how the University is responding to student feedback. 

The postholder will be expected to ensure that all related communications and engagement: 

  • Are targeted 

  • Are timely – both planned and spontaneous according to the strategic needs  

  • Utilise our student-facing primary and secondary channels, reflecting both audience needs, information consumption habits and best-practice 

  • Utilise the full coalition of available sponsors. 

This is a full-time position, fixed term until 31 July 2024.

Salary: £32,332 – £34,980 per annum (Grade 5).  Appointments will usually be at the bottom of the grade.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

Qualifications and Education 

  • Degree/NVQ6 or equivalent professional membership/experience 

  • Knowledge, Skills and Experience 

  • Substantial experience of working within communications and stakeholder engagement 

  • Able to demonstrate professional knowledge of communications and stakeholder engagement, enabling them to give advice and guidance to internal and external customers 

  • Proven experience of writing engaging content for students, promoting/marketing services in a quantifiable manner and eliciting a desired change in behaviour(s) 

  • Customer Service, Communication and Team Working 

  • Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people, especially students 

  • Evidence of ability to explore customers’ needs and adapt to ensure a quality service is delivered 

  • Proven ability to develop professional networks in order to contribute to long term developments 

  • Planning, Analysis and Problem solving 

  • Evidence of ability to solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity; identify and propose both practical and innovative solutions 

  • Evidence of demonstrable knowledge of key advances within communications and stakeholder engagement 

  • Evidence of ability to undertake and deliver specific projects and supervise short term project teams 

  • Desirable Criteria 

  • Experience of working in a higher education environment 

  • Fluency in Welsh, written and oral 

  • Postgraduate or professional qualification
