The Student Welfare and Safeguarding Adviser works as one of two Deputy Lead Safeguarding Officers within the Safeguarding Team of Student Services, managing a case-load of complex and time sensitive student cases with the aim of ensuring student safety and wellbeing while ensuring that cases are closely monitored and the University’s response is appropriate and timely.
You will deliver high quality, accurate and personalised advice and guidance to staff across the University on issues relating to student welfare and safeguarding and ensure staff and students can navigate and interact with the University’s regulations and relevant student policies. You will also be responsible for effective reports and records to ensure accurate monitoring of the impact of the area.
You will develop networks within and without of the institution to enhance student support and you will train and disseminate expert knowledge of the area to colleagues across the University in support of vulnerable students.

About You
You will have an advanced knowledge and experience in the application of Safeguarding and Welfare policies and practices, preferably within a Higher Education setting. You will understand the issues and challenges that might impact a students’ welfare and be able to demonstrate experience of a multi-agency approach to case management.
You will be resilient, with a proven record of dealing with complex, challenging and difficult situations in a timely and empathetic manner. You will be digitally literate with a commitment to data integrity and to the use of data to monitor performance and to make service improvements and have proven experience of providing clear information to a range of audiences, including senior managers, to convey technical or complex information effectively.

education and/or training and development in this area
Library, Learning and Student Services
Student Services consists of five teams; Counselling and Mental Health, ASSIST, Disability Support, Financial Guidance, Student Advice and Support and The Student Information Desk. It reports to the Director of Library, Learning and Student Services alongside the university library and central support for learning and teaching.
The Directorate has a commitment to the student experience but is also committed to developing staff. We are working towards the University Mental Health Charter and are currently engaged with the Advance-HE Building Belonging Project and the Drug and Alcohol Impact Project.
