For more information, visitResponsibilitiesAs Sustainability Manager, you will play a key role in driving a just and sustainable energy transition in hard-to-abate sectors such as aviation, shipping and materials and ensuring that novel feedstock and technologies being researched and developed through projects funded by Horizon Europe and other EU funding programmes (hereafter referred to as “EU Projects”) are sustainable.You will report to the Programme Director and work closely with the EU Project Lead, collaborating with the RSB’s Programme and Sustainability Foundation teams.You will be responsible for:

  • Performing sustainability analyses based on project demands, including environmental life cycle assessments (LCA) and feedstock production and supply chain gap analyses using the RSB EU RED certification standards.
  • Supporting project partners and companies in understanding and implementing RSB certification.
  • Contributing policy insights to Horizon Europe project design and execution, aligning deliverables with policy frameworks and societal challenges.
  • Collaborating with internal and external experts to deliver technical work, and conducting stakeholder consultations to validate results.
  • Writing project-related technical reports, including occasional scientific publications, and giving presentations at workshops and events.
  • Organising in-person and online project meetings, workshops and other related events.
  • Supporting fundraising, including identifying new project opportunities, developing relationships with project partners, project design and budgeting, and writing proposals.
  • Managing EU project tasks and work packages assigned to you, ensuring well-planned and timely delivery.

)RequirementsRequired – Education, experience, and qualifications

  • Professional experience in the European bio-based and circular economy sector, demonstrated by a minimum of 5 years of working experience in any of these sectors: bioenergy, biofuels biorefinery, biomaterials.
  • Understanding of EU RED sustainability certification systems and sustainability requirements for bioenergy and materials, demonstrated by a minimum of 2 years of professional experience working with sustainability certifications like the RSB or similar.
  • Understanding of sustainability, circularity, biofuels/biomaterials in the EU policy framework.
  • Professional experience in conducting environmental assessment (LCA) and application of relevant tools.
  • Experience in communicating and working collaboratively with companies, government institutions, non-profit agencies, academia and technical experts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and the ability to collect data and prepare professional and accurate fundraising proposals, technical reports, scientific publications and presentations
  • Master’s degree and/or relevant qualifications in environmental science, sustainability, or similar.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • Valid work permit for UK, Spain or Germany.
  • Able and willing to travel regularly in Europe and internationally (4 to 6 annual trips).

Desired – Education, experience, and qualifications

  • Knowledge of the European Commission management rules associated with the Horizon Europe programme (administrative, financial, legal) with 3+ years of working experience in EU projects
  • Comprehensive understanding of EU bioeconomy policy frameworks, including Green Deal, Fit for 55, and Renewable Energy Directive
  • Professional experience in social assessment projects.

  • Location: Home office-based. Candidates must be located in Spain, United Kindgom or Germany and in possession of a valid work permit.
  • Travel: Required for meetings several times per year
  • Position type: Full-time
