Position Overview | The Department of Social and Cultural Sciences is hiring a Teaching Assistant Professor to teach undergraduate courses in sociology, including SOCI 1001 (Principles of Sociology), SOCI 3050 (Methods of Social Research), and upper-division electives in their area of expertise. The position is for 9 months and begins in August 2023, with the possibility of reappointment for subsequent terms. The Department of Social and Cultural Sciences offers undergraduate majors in Anthropology, Criminology and Law Studies, Sociology, and Social Welfare and Justice. Duties and Responsibilities | Applicants should be prepared to teach regularly a Fall and Spring section of SOCI 3050 (the required methods course) and our introductory Principles of Sociology (1001) course. Beyond these teaching expectations, all areas of specialization will be considered, though applicants should clarify in their application other courses they would be prepared to teach. We have a need for courses on Race, Inequality, Family, Health/Medicine, Sports, and Popular Culture but are open to all areas of focus. Candidates will have full responsibility for courses they are teaching, including course planning, syllabus preparation, and grading. Candidates will also maintain a minimum of three office hours a week. The teaching load is 4/4, though a reduced load may be possible based on engagement in service activities. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Earned doctorate or a terminal degree. Five years of teaching experience or other suitable professional experience. |
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Ph.D. in Sociology or related field. Demonstrated excellence in teaching. |
