About the role

We are looking for a motivated person with knowledge and experience of tree management and
excellent interpersonal skills to join our busy Planning Service and contribute to the
protection and enhancement of the special landscapes of the National Park.

Sitting within the Cultural Heritage Team you will provide specialist tree conservation advice,
support and guidance both internally and externally, and help to deliver an effective and
integrated conservation advice service with a particular focus on the Authority’s statutory
functions.

Your work will include responding to tree enquiries across the National Park, including the 109
Conservation Areas and trees covered by Tree Preservation Orders; liaising with tree owners to
achieve good outcomes for tree management, landscape and amenity benefits, health & safety,
neighbour relations and wildlife, and ensuring compliance with legislation. You will also draw
up and recommend new Tree Preservation Orders when necessary.

You will contribute towards the further development of the advisory service, and will explore
new opportunities for developing training and outreach activities. You will also help to seek
grant-funding opportunities where appropriate, and help to build networks and collaborative
relationships with our local authorities, district and other environmental delivery
organisations.

About you

You will have a Certificate in Arboriculture (or equivalent relevant qualification). You will
have knowledge of legislation relating to tree management (e.g. Tree Preservation Orders and
Conservation Area notification) and experience of working within these statutory processes. You
will have experience of assessing the impact of development proposals on trees, and writing
consultation responses including mitigation strategies. You will have experience of tree hazard
inspection and tree safety survey, and you will have excellent communication and people skills
and be able to share your enthusiasm for, and knowledge of, trees widely both inside and
outside the organisation.

You will have good IT skills including word processing and GIS. You will be able to manage your
workload within statutory deadlines.
