Temporary 24-monthApplications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Earth Sciences.Dr Aline Melo (Assistant Professor in the UCD School of Earth Sciences) and Prof Murray Hitzman (director of iCRAG – Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre in Applied Geosciences), are currently seeking a post-doctoral researcher to join her team of 3 PhD students and 2 research assistants. The successful candidate will work on a project funded by iCRAG, the Geological Survey Ireland (GSI), and a group of six industry partners composed of multinational mining, exploration, and service companies (BHP, Glencore, Boliden, South 32, KoBold Metals, Sander Geophysics Ltd.).The candidate will construct a 3D Common Earth Model for the Limerick Basin in Ireland by undertaking inversions of multiple geophysical datasets with petrophysical constraints. As a part of the research, a database of physical properties of rocks of interest from the study area will be built from legacy data and by acquiring additional measurements (velocity, magnetic susceptibility, conductivity, density, gamma, and chargeability) in the new Petrophysics Laboratory at UCD. The main objective of the project is to understand the regional basin architecture of the Limerick Basin and its relationship to the Zn-Pb-Ag-Cu mineral systems located within it. This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competencies, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.Salary Range: €44,847 – €51,313 Per AnnumAppointment in the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.Closing date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on the 6th of December 2024.Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified.
