The Trust

We are Tyne Rivers Trust, the only environmental charity dedicated to looking after the iconic
Tyne and its tributaries. We work to improve the Tyne rivers through education, reducing
pollution and practical conservation.

The Tyne Rivers and tributaries flow through the picturesque semi-rural counties of Cumbria,
Durham and Northumberland. A mixture of beautiful wide-open spaces, species-rich ravines and
fascinating industrial heritage that follows the UNESCO World Heritage listed Hadrian’s Wall to
the urban conurbations of Newcastle and Gateshead. But our natural resource: water and its
associated biodiversity is under increasing pressure from land management techniques,
increasing population and failing infrastructure.

The global pandemic, COP26 and recent storms have highlighted the importance of our environment
and how we chose to live within it. Our work is increasingly recognised for its crucial role
and we are now in a position to grow our team to deliver catchment-scale natured-based
solutions that directly contribute to climate change resilience and increasing wellbeing for
all within the catchment.

The RoleUrban Catchment Project Manager

To work with our enthusiastic, dynamic team, the local community and key partners at the
sub-catchment scale. Our current projects cover rural and urban challenges in the Ouse Burn and
River Don catchments including; natural flood management, fisheries improvements, innovative
changes to land management and awareness raising of improvements individuals can make. Working
with all sectors of the community to share best practice is key.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Drive allocated existing projects forward
  • Development of new opportunities and resolving barriers to progressing improvements at a
    sub-catchment scale
  • Ensure and encourage a strong working relationship with key catchment stakeholders
  • Ensure holistic delivery of high-quality practical improvements, engagement activities and
    collection of relevant evidence of impact that can be used to build confidence and develop
    future programmes of work.


We are looking to recruit an experienced Project Manager to work at the sub-catchment scale,
leading the development and delivery of both multi-stakeholder programmes in both rural and
urban environments.

You will have a professional, positive attitude and flexible approach to achieving consensus
and moving practical delivery forward.

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant subject
  • Proven track record of delivering multi-faceted practical projects at a sub-catchment scale
  • Ability to problem-solve and work unsupervised with the drive to generate and manage own
    workload as well as colleagues
  • Demonstrable track record of supervising contractors

Competency in producing story maps and content as well as experience of working within
construction design and management regulations and practical hydro-geomorphology would also be

Travel across the Tyne Catchment for events and meetings will be required in this role. The
role requires working outdoors with potentially difficult access at times.

Deadline for applications is Midnight 4th April 2023 with interviews scheduled for 18th and
19th April 2023.

Interviews will be in person at Tyne Rivers Trust offices, (or via video conference if pandemic
restrictions / access require) they will last in the region of 1 hour and will include a
10-minute presentation, with short follow-up Q&A on the presentation followed by more formal interview questions. The topic for the
presentation will be forwarded by email to short listed candidates on 11th April 2023. There
will be opportunity to ask questions of the Trust.
