Application deadline 2025-08-15About us:The at the LMU Munich is a nationally and internationally recognized center for aquatic veterinary medicine biosecurity and education.We are looking for you:Veterinarian as research assistant at the Chair of Fish Diseases and Fisheries Biology (m/f/x)in MunichYour tasks and responsibilities:

  • Perform research in the general field of aquatic animal health, with focus on bivalve disease control and prevention as part of conservation actions for critically endangered species Pinna nobilis (Noble Pen Shell) under EU LIFE program project PINNACARE
  • Prepare and develop P. nobilis biosecurity case studies for conservation areas/sanctuaries in different locations engaged in PINNACARE project. Expected activities include: visits to the locations and collection of site-specific information; preparation of priority disease lists; semi-quantitative risk assessments; analysis of critical disease entry/leave control points; preparations of surveillance/monitoring and contingency plans
  • Produce initial drafts of the Pinna biosecurity training manual and supporting materials. Take active role in PINNACARE biosecurity training programs as part of the trainer/facilitator team
  • Cooperation assistance in the other scientific and organizational tasks at the Chair, including laboratory activities and animal care

Your qualifications:

  • Veterinarian with professional and scientific expertise in one or more of the following areas: aquatic veterinary medicine, biosecurity, disease control and prevention, epidemiology, aquaculture or aquaria care experience, or similar
  • For a postdoctoral research associate position, a completed doctorate and/or a title of a veterinary specialist (fachtieraerzt and/or EBVS/ABVS recognized specialty) is required
  • Qualified veterinarian (m/f/d) with experience/internship in aquatic animal health can be considered for this position if they show interest in a concurrent specialist training (ECAAH residency program) and/or doctoral (Dr. Med. Vet.) program
  • Knowledge of animal experiments and experience in aquatic animal veterinary care is desirable. Qualifications such as FELASA B or equivalent is preferred
  • Knowledge of infectious medical/pathological examination procedures is desirable
  • Independent and well-structured way of working with a high standard of quality
  • Ability to work in an international team of peers and strong/excellent communication skills in written and spoken English
