VETERINARY SURGEON BLUE CROSS (Shelter Medicine Programme) Part time FIXED TERM
We have an exciting opportunity for a vet with excellent clinical experience, who is looking to inspire the next generation of vet students!
Set up in 2018, the RVC rotation based at Blue Cross Victoria, is one of the most popular in the final year core rotations and is a part of the RVC Shelter medicine/ Accessible care Programme. The Blue Cross Victoria hospital is a 24-hour charity hospital providing veterinary treatment for animals belonging to people whose financial circumstances do not provide the means for private veterinary fees. The rotation runs for 48 weeks per year, with students encouraged to take charge of cases and use a logical clinical problem-solving approach to create treatment plans to present to clients. Students will also carry out preventative care consultations and gain experience discussing the cost of treatments with clients.
You will work for the RVC, 9-5pm Monday and Tuesday (with another vet covering Wednesday- Friday). You will be responsible for delivering a highly practical rotation for 6-7 final year vet students at a time, teaching communication and consultation skills. As a role model for RVC students, excellent communication skills and the ability to provide and receive feedback are essential, as is a strong focus on client service. You will be demonstrating a high standard of first opinion/accessible care practice to students during their rotation while they are learning hands on “day one skills”. Teaching experience is not essential for the role but a passion for teaching is. Support/training will be provided
There is no out of hours or weekend work routinely required for this role.
A generous reward package is offered. This is a fixed term contract from January- July 2024.
For further information please contact the Head Vet of the Royal Veterinary College Shelter Medicine Program, Louise Allum [email protected] in the first instance.
We promote equality of opportunity and diversity within the workplace and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
