The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Marine Technologies currently invites applications for the position ofProfessor (W3) of Energy System Technologyto be appointed as of April 1st, 2027.The professorship represents the subject area with a special focus on mechanical engineering applications in
research and teaching at the faculty. In the degree programmes Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering,
Sustainable Maritime Engineering and Computational Science and Engineering, both basic and specialised content
of the subject area is taught. Lectures are to be held in German and English.We are looking for a scientifical y proven person who wil contribute to the further development of methods and
models in the field of data-driven analysis and optimization of sustainable energy technologies through innovative
research. The research should focus on solving complex mechanical engineering and process engineering
chal enges using model ing and simulation. The focus wil be on researching new approaches in at least two of the
fol owing areas:

• Large-scale process and plant engineering for energy conversion and storage
• Processes for the production of climate-neutral materials, energy sources and products
• Plant and process model ing, in particular using machine learning methods
• Data-driven methods for optimization and operation (incl. maintenance) of transient plants, in particular utilizing

stochastic time series analysis.In-depth cooperation with the Institutes of Piston Machines and Internal Combustion Engines, Technical
Thermodynamics, Data-Driven Analysis and Design of Materials, Ocean Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Fluid
Machinery, Technical Mechanics/Dynamics, Microfluidics and Product Development as wel as the wil ingness to
co-operate scientifical y with other faculties, in particular with the Interdisciplinary Faculty of the University of
Rostock, and to co-operate with industrial companies are expected.We are looking for a person who can demonstrate extensive experience in the field of appointment and is
recognised for scientific achievements with international visibility. Relevant experience in third-party funded
research projects at national and international level, as wel as in col aboration with industrial companies is
expected. Teaching aptitude is a prerequisite for appointment. Applicants are expected to describe their strategies

(LHG M-V). According to this, appointment requires a completed university degree, a doctorate, teaching
experience (§ 58 Paragraph (1) LHG M-V), and additional academic achievements, which must general y bedemonstrated through a junior professorship or a habilitation; otherwise, equivalent academic achievements (§ 58
(2) LHG M-V) are required for employment.The professorship is to be fil ed according to § 61 LHG M-V as a position with civil servant status for life, or, if
applicable, for 5 years. It is also possible to fil the position as a regular state employee.Special abilities and achievements in teaching as wel as in the organization of science and academic self-
administration are taken into account. For this purpose, the results in teaching, the ideas for future teaching
including the didactic design of courses are to be presented and the experience in scientific management is to be
