Job description

This is a hugely exciting time to be joining the King’s Sport & Wellness team at King’s College London as we look to begin the next stage of our delivery from 2022-2025, supporting our community to be their personal best through sport & wellness.  

The post holder will be responsible for coordinating & developing the King’s Wellness Scheme, supporting the department outcomes of physical and mental wellbeing, individual development & community cohesion and social integration.  

The role holder will be responsible for the coordination and development of wellness support to the Kings community, as well as delivering a number of wellness events. Focusing on the wellbeing and experience of the Kings community the post holder will work with gym staff and other wellbeing coordinators to ensure support is effective, inclusive and engaging for the whole Kings community.   

Working cross-functionally the post holder will develop relationships with faculties, departments, professional services and external partners to provide support and innovative opportunities to maximise the reach and impact of our wellness programmes. 

This post will be offered on an a fixed-term contract for 1 year until December 2024

This is a full-time post – 100% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver the day-to-day programme coordination of King’s Wellness Scheme and more specifically Active Wellness Scheme   
  • Manage the case load of the AWS. Communicating a clear vision for the team, agree tasks and objectives, organise and delegate work, giving general guidance and overall direction.  Regularly mentoring instructors to be able to improve and deliver sessions to an acceptable standard.   
  • Deliver client consultations and ensure the appropriate individuals are assigned to coaches 
  • Support with delivery of active wellness scheme including taking on clients for coaching sessions where needed 
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with key internal and external staff and delivery partners, and other organisations including the Health centre and Mental health services  
  • To share expertise and knowledge to support the delivery of outstanding wellness operations and a World Class Service to our members, growing a community and strengthening connections to King’s Sport & Wellness  
  • Develop, with our Marketing and Design Coordinator, any necessary communications and marketing plans for promotion of our programmes and community activity.     
  • Work alongside the Wellness Coordinator to support wellness across the department. Specifically, supporting the wellness events.  
  • Work specifically with Organisational Development to support staff wellness initiatives and engagement 
  • To monitor KPI’s of King’s Wellness Scheme as part of the overall objectives of King’s Sport & Wellness 
  • To sustain, improve and grow our community wellness events and projects. e.g. Active Wellness Scheme, Staff Wellness, University Mental Health Awareness day   
  • An important and regular part of the role is that the job holder communicates information clearly and precisely with students, service providers and external bodies   
  • Seek out and act on feedback from students, staff, partners and external bodies to improve the service of our programmes   
  • To be responsible for the Health & Safety aspects of the programme 
  • Champion and advocate for diversity and inclusion as an imperative for King’s and work to identify and remove the barriers to increase the reach and inclusivity of our programmes 9eg partnerships and online delivery) 
  • Ensure business practices are aligned and support king’s ambition to continue to work towards protecting the environment  
  • Take lead for the review and development of sustainability of King’s Sport & Wellness programmes, spaces and processes. 
  • To monitor financial performance against budget targets of income and expenditure on a monthly basis, reporting back to KSW management and forecasting any financial risk of opportunities.  
  • Attend King’s Sport & Wellness partnership and university meetings and prepare detailed written and verbal reports and presentation for a range of key internal and external audiences 
  • Any further duties which may reasonably be required by the line manager or Head of Department commensurate with the grade 
  • Effectively use King’s Sport & Wellness IT systems in place to gather and manipulate data so that it can be interpreted by others, including participation data of the programme which will be reported internally and externally

Skills, knowledge, and experience 

Essential criteria

  • Level 2 Fitness Qualification 
  • Ability to lead and inspire others 
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal the ability to deal effectively with students, coaches and sports development staff 
  • Excellent project management skills 
  • Analytical and problem solving skills 
  • Substantial experience of physical activity or wellness in higher education or similar organization 
  • Experience of partnership working, developing and managing relationships 
  • Commitment to continued professional development in the area of wellness & physical activity 
  • Ability to prioritize work effectively in order to achieve short, medium and long term objectives 
  • Experience of and aptitude for organizing and coordinating meetings and events, often liaising with senior staff and external partners 
  • Desirable criteria

  • University Degree in Mental Health related area or MHFA experience 
  • GP Referral 
  • Instructor Qualification (Yoga, Pilates, other exercise classes)
