Job Title: Senior BNG Ecologist

Reports To: Head of Environment and Biodiversity

Salary: £40,000, excluding any performance-related bonus

Terms: Permanent 36 hours p/w

Location: Home-based with some travel across the UK.

THE ROLE

In preparation to play a leading role in the delivery of onsite and offsite Biodiversity Net
Gain (BNG), the Land Trust is seeking to employ a ‘Senior BNG Ecologist’ to assist the Head of
Environment and Biodiversity deliver the Land Trust’s BNG Business Plan. The national role will
play a part in trading over 2,000 Biodiversity Units from Land Trust estate and assisting the
acquisition of onsite and offsite projects across England. They will oversee the detailed
design stage of a habitat restoration project over 6 LT sites and undertake consultancy on
future Land Trust sites/projects. There is also potential to play a leading role with Land
Trust’s role as a Responsible Body subject to a successful application to DEFRA.

Roles and responsibilities will include undertaking and/or outsourcing the full range of tasks
related to BNG from UKhab surveys and condition assessments through to writing, costing,
delivering, and monitoring Biodiversity Management and Monitoring Plans. This national role
will project manage new BNG projects from enquiries through to completed transactions, with the
legal negotiations overseen by the Head of Environment and Biodiversity.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Full member of CIEEM (onwards subscription cost to be covered by LT)
  • Educated to degree or Masters level in Ecological related subject or proven relevant
    experience.
  • Experience of project managing medium to large projects.
  • Experience in all aspects and stages of BNG
  • Experience of tendering habitat creation/restoration projects and producing all necessary
    documentation.
  • >5 years professional experience
