Part-time College Lecturer (Career Development) in Politics (International Relations)

Pembroke College wishes to appoint a part-time College Lecturer in Politics, from 1 September 2024 to 31 August 2026. This is a fixed term career development post, intended to give lecturers the opportunity to develop skills in teaching and administration as well to pursue their research. 

We welcome applicants with expertise in International Relations. We have an engaged and active Politics community at Pembroke. You will be mentored by senior academics and work alongside a number of college lecturers and researchers in the college.

All of our teaching is in small groups (tutorials of two students and classes of up to six). You will be required to teach the following courses to undergraduate students of PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) and of History and Politics; and to students on their Junior Year Abroad from Universities in the USA, Hong Kong and China, who are studying politics:

For First Year Students: ‘Practice of Politics’ and ‘Introduction to Politics’ as described in the PPE Prelims Handbook .

For Final Year Students: International Relations as detailed at page 56 of the PPE FHS Handbook

You will be required to provide teaching for an average of 3 hours’ contact time per week during the eight weeks of Oxford’s three terms. You will be expected to set and mark weekly essays, set and mark college exams and participate in undergraduate admissions.  You will also take on administrative and pastoral responsibilities, including organising teaching and helping students to adjust to the course in their first term at Oxford.

The salary will be in the range of £7,622-£8,492 per annum (pro rata) depending on experience and qualifications. You will have access to a teaching and research allowance of £605 per annum, use of a room for teaching and you will also be able to take some lunches and dinners free of charge in College throughout the year. The salary figures are 2023-24 rates and are subject to an annual uplift.

College lectureships of this type are designed to provide teaching opportunities and valuable experience for people wishing to develop their academic career.
