How you’ll make a difference

Under the guidance of the Place Improvements Team Manager, you will be responsible for the
delivery of a wide range of community, landscape and environmental projects. These will help to
achieve the Council’s policies in relation to public open space management and contribute to
the efficient and sustainable management of open spaces.

Your role will help empower community groups by providing support and technical expertise to
carry out landscape and environmental improvement projects, whilst contributing towards the
enhancement, maintenance and improvement of open space land assets.

What will you be doing?

  • It will be your responsibility to provide advice, guidance and support to community groups,
    partners and customers. This will support work stream objectives and identify areas within
    local communities where support is required to engage people in the provision and delivery of
    services.
  • It will be key for you to plan and deliver events including consultation, undertaking
    presentations, briefings and providing formal and informal training to colleagues, partners and
    the community in a variety of settings.
  • You will be responsible for the delivery of s106 funded off site public open space
    landscape improvements.
  • At times, you will be required to facilitate the inspection of land scheduled to become
    public open space through the development process, including site inspections to assess
    horticultural standards and any necessary liaison.
  • In this role, you will monitor assigned budgets to ensure activities are achieved within
    allocated resources and that financial information is accurate and accessible.
  • You will assist in the building of local community networks, helping them to build capacity
    to make an effective contribution to a wide range of community initiatives.
  • You will work closely with partner organisations to secure their involvement in achieving
    community objectives and ensure all partnership activities are in line with Council regulations
    and agreed budgets and targets.

What we need from you

  • It is essential you have a relevant degree or equivalent qualification in a horticultural /
    landscape / environmental management discipline, or considerable experience in managing public
    open space improvements, landscape and environmental projects and community engagement.
  • We require you to be able to demonstrate experience of managing and implementing multiple,
    complex horticultural, landscape and environmental schemes.
  • You will have knowledge of practical horticultural methods, techniques and standards
    applicable to the service area, specifically the inspection of landscaping / public open space
    schemes, inspected by the Council as part of the development process.
  • It is essential you have demonstrable experience of working with community groups and
    volunteers to enhance and manage open spaces and implement landscape and environmental
    projects.
  • You must be able to engage effectively with colleagues and external partners and influence
    others based on your technical knowledge of the area.

This is a 3 year limited term contract. The role is suitable for office/home working and will
require regular delivery on site in Kingswood. A driving licence and transport is
essential. Interviews will take place week commencing 13th May 2024.
