The DepartmentThe Department of Economics of the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid is one of the cornerstones of economics research in Spain, as demonstrated by its accreditation as a Unidad de Excelencia María de Maeztu in the 2015 (2016-2019) and 2021 (2023-2026) calls, and by its position in international rankings such as the ranking of the European Economic Association, that places it 52 in the world, 9 in Europe and 2 in Spain. Its success is the result of adopting the professional practices of the best universities in the world: recruiting its junior faculty in the international job market, abrogating inbreeding practices deeply entrenched in the Spanish university system; applying high-quality research and teaching standards to reach promotion; implementing policies incentivizing quality research and teaching.
