Job description

Offer DescriptionContext:GC Aesthetics is an international company that develops, manufactures and markets breast and body implants in nearly 75 countries around the world, and promotes the best medical aesthetic solutions to improve the lives of women around the world. As part of research and development projects, the R&D department continuously improves existing products and develops the products of tomorrow.Breast implants are made of a silicone shell whose surface can be smooth or textured, a patch and a filler. The EN ISO 14607:2018 Standard specifies the particular requirements relating to breast implants among which causes perspiration of implants (“gel bleed”). Perspiration refers to diffusion microscopic view of the silicone gel through the shell of the breast implant. The envelope of the implant, in silicone, is a membrane which can be permeable to certain silicone elements depending on their composition and their physicochemical characteristics. This perspiration can be variable in quantity and depends, between others, the degree of crosslinking of the silicone elastomer casing and the silicone gel. In order to limit perspiration, the implant envelopes have a barrier layer acting according to different mechanisms: steric hindrance, electrostatic repulsion, etc.Summary: This PhD thesis project aims to improve the physicochemical and mechanical properties of breast and body implants. The objectives will be: 1) Characterize implant raw materials. 2) Study the polymerization mechanisms according to the transformation parameters entering into play during the manufacturing of our implants. 3) Evaluate the influence of transformation parameters on implant perspiration, allowing in finely improve performance by modulating these parameters. 4) Evaluate the impact of improving perspiration on the mechanical properties of the implant. Keywords: silicone, elastomer chemistry, physicochemical properties, perspiration, breast implants Profile: The candidate (Master 2 or chemical engineer or engineer in the medical field) must have knowledge in chemistry and physico-chemistry, with a marked interest in the chemistry of polymers (silicones) and applications in the health field.
