The CSFT is located in a Technology Park in Torino (Environment park) that is working on environmental innovation and sustainability pathways.For this research activity, high-tech and cutting-edge facilities for operando and correlative operando characterizations, namely operando thermoelectric TEM characterization (TE-TEM), operando electrochemical liquid phase TEM characterization (EC-LPTEM), operando Raman spectroscopy, operando XRD, operando XPS, operando IR Spectroscopy will be available.The research position for which you are applying will be related to the themes of the Research Unit and in particular will be focused on implementing techniques, experimental set-up and protocols for operando and correlative operando electrochemical characterization of functional materials for energy transition, with particular reference on hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR), oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Depending on the scientific and technical background of the selected candidate, the activity will include some of the following techniques: operando electrochemical liquid phase TEM characterization, operando Raman spectroscopy, operando XRD, operando XPS, operando IR Spectroscopy. The activity will be done in collaboration with the Advanced Characterizations Team, which has an already consolidated background in structural and morphological characterizations as well as in operando EC-LPTEM and TE-TEM.Your main responsibilities will be:
- Contributing to the optimization of experimental protocols for operando XRD, operando XPS, operando IR Spectroscopy
- Contributing to the optimization protocols to perform correlative operando measurements
- Take the responsibility of managing one characterization techniques among operando XRD, operando XPS, operando IR Spectroscopy (depending on the background)
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- PhD in Material Science or Physics or equivalent degree
- Hands-on experience in Transmission Electron Microscopy and/or Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy
- Hands-on experience in XRD and/or XPS and/or IR spectroscopy
- Experience in electrochemistry will be positively evaluated
- Good communication skills in English
- Strong problem-solving attitude
- High motivation to learn
- Spirit of innovation and creativity
- Good at time and priority management
- Ability to work in a challenging and international environment
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment
