Our systems are developed for a wide range of significant defence projects, including the Astute and Dreadnought class submarines, Merlin helicopters, Type 23 frigates and the Hunt class mine countermeasures vessel. As a Thales Maritime Mission Systems Software Test Engineer, you will help develop the next-generation of Sonar technologies, for which we are world-renowned.You will be a key member of the Software Development team based at the Thales site in Cheadle, Manchester (hybrid working), and will have the opportunity to collaborate with Thales sites in the UK and overseas.Career PathwayShort Term: Write test procedures from software requirements, deploy containerised software onto Linux-based systems, perform software test activitiesMedium Term: Become the manager of the software test-rig responsible for managing the rig configuration, scheduling software deployment onto it, managing its usage with all stakeholders, and leading rig maintenance and support when integration issues are encounteredLong Term: Managing all software integration and verification activities for key projects. This would include devising test schedules, managing work for a scrum team, and presenting results to internal stakeholders and external customersYour Skills and ExperienceYou will be required to provide evidence of activity that supports the desire to pursue a career in Software Test and Integration Engineering at Thales.
- Knowledge of the Software / Systems Engineering Lifecycle
- Software testing and verification
- Worked within a requirements based/driven engineering environment
- Software test-writing based on software requirements
- Deploying software to test-rigs
- Requirements traceability
- Configuration control
- Virtualisation and use of VMWare applications
- Git version control
- Software containerisation and specifically use of Kubernetes, Docker/Podman,
- CI/CD pipelines and using tools such as Jenkins, and Artifactory
- C++/Java/Python programming languages
- Using Linux based systems and the Linux terminal
- Using vSphere/vCenter and creating virtual machines
- Writing bash scripts to automate tasks on Linux based systems

Qualifications
- Electronics/Systems/Software/Control Engineering Degree
- GCSE English Language at equivalent to grade C or above
- Qualifications relating to ISTQB
- Qualifications relating to requirements writing, such as ASEP/CSEP
- Incorporated (IEng) or Chartered (CEng) Engineer (Not Essential)
- Scrum certifications, such as certified Scrum Master or Product Owner (Not essential)
