Definition

Under direction, is responsible for supervising employees performing street maintenance and cleaning activities; performs related duties as required.

Examples of Work

(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)

  • Supervises employees engaged in street maintenance and cleaning activities to include conducting performance evaluations, approving/disapproving leave requests and/or initiating disciplinary action;
  • Assigns work to crews involved in street cleaning, snow and ice removal, roadside mowing, and the repair and maintenance of streets, street berm, and alleys;
  • Observes work progress of crews; inspects work in progress for conformance to plans, specifications, and instructions;
  • Ensures proper utilization of safety precautions, including barricades and traffic control devices;
  • Completes daily log of completed work assignments, lists for materials and equipment used, and time cards for subordinates;
  • Trains and instructs employees in proper methods of operation;
  • Inspects equipment to determine need for repair and preventive maintenance; assists in the procurement of maintenance equipment;
  • Investigates and responds to minor accidents that occur in the field;
  • Determines proper work methods, interprets special and unusual working conditions and resolves operating problems;
  • Operates a computer to initiate and update work orders and complete reports;
  • Settles disputes among workers; recommends corrective and disciplinary actions for subordinate personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of the twelfth school grade and three (3) years’ experience in street maintenance and/or street cleaning operations. Substitution(s): A certificate of high school equivalence (GED) will be accepted in lieu of the twelfth school grade requirement.

Possession of a valid driver’s license.

The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create a NEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list, and will replace the names on the current list. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. Questions regarding this process can be directed to the Test Center at 614-645-7439.

The examination process will consist of a computerized exam weighted 100% covering Supervision, Reading Comprehension, Logic and Reasoning, Problem Sensitivity, Map Reading, Street Cleaning and Maintenance, and Microsoft Outlook 2016/2019.

The exam is expected to be administered in July. Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.

All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate’s name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
