The Associate Director is responsible for deploying organizational training strategy and delivery across relevant Global Clinical Operation roles and functions. This includes creating or improving existing functional role-based training programs for best-in-class training across the globe, which includes differentiated learning journeys to best meet the needs of the trainees and the business. The Associate Director will engage with key partners, vendors and lead a team responsible for training creation, facilitation, and delivery. This role will partner with team members to align training strategy, delivery, and operations for study specific training as well as to support portfolio services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand intended training roles and competencies to define necessary training strategy.

  • Collaborate with the Head of Clinical Trial Learning & Training to improve the organizational strategy for effective design, development, deployment, and administration of training programs that support internal business objectives by using advanced learning design/development techniques and tools of adult learning theory.

  • Stay on top of training and development research within/out of industry, new materials, methodologies.

  • Set expectations for creative and effective training modalities as the norm for the overall training strategy.

  • Oversee departmental instructional design by creating, delivering, maintaining, and evaluating instructor led and eLearning training programs in support of training initiatives and educational programs.

  • Lead multiple learning projects and potential to manage an internal or external team of learning professionals required to design and deliver learning solutions.

  • Benchmark industry and company technology to leverage/adopt effective modalities for training delivery.

  • Evaluate data from training programs and makes recommendations for changes to strategy.

  • Implement the organizational strategy that will support continuous learning, knowledge management, success measurements and continuous improvement.

  • Understand training strategy, design, delivery and operations and leverages technology and resources across training groups throughout Johnson & Johnson.

  • Responsible for the strategy and evaluation of training efficiency against needs of the business.

  • Assist the Head of Clinical Trial Learning & Training with budget management.

  • Contribute to the definition and development of new processes, standards, or operational plans in support of the organizational/ business strategies, with a direct impact on business unit/function overall results for all areas of focus within Clinical Trial Learning & Training.

  • Serves as a key contact for the GCO Organization point of contact for internal training, not limited to functional training, but may include study specific training.

  • Consults with senior management to identify training needs and establish effective training solutions.

  • Collaborates with local and central business partners to support inspections and office audits as needed for GCO training insights.

  • Defines, strategizes, and advances GCO staff training related data/metrics, as applicable.

Qualifications

Education:

  • BA/BS degree (required) preferably in Instructional Design, Training, Instructional Technology, or Education. MA/MS degree in Instructional Design or a related field of study highly preferred.

Experience and Skills:

  • 8 years of business experience working in Education and/or a Design and Development role is required.

  • 3 years of previous Pharmaceutical industry experience in a leadership role is required.

  • Knowledge of the overall drug development process is required.

  • Well-developed skills and knowledge of core GCO business processes and practices (i.e., SOPs and Systems governing clinical research activities) is required.

  • Ability to translate data into information and strategies into executable action plans improving the business is required.

  • Ability to motivate professional colleagues and partners is required.

  • Ability to independently plan, organize, coordinate, manage and implement assigned tasks is required.

  • Subject matter expert and proven application of adult learning principles & practices, and instructional design for various modalities is required.

  • Extensive knowledge of current instructional theories and principles applicable to both online and instructor-led learning programs is required.

  • Highly effective personal leadership skills with demonstrated proficiency working with all levels of the organization including senior leaders is required.

  • Strong networking and relationship building skills is required.

  • Ability to build an open and inviting environment is required.

  • Experience in R&D process requirements to successfully drive GCO Compliance productivity, strategy optimization, process improvements and efficiencies including optimal development and management of training content, approaches, and delivery is required.

  • Knowledge for industry regulatory requirements is required.

  • Experience in managing projects, teams and/or extensive experience on global projects is required.

  • Excellent written, oral communication, interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and presentation skills and outstanding customer service is required.

  • Strong understanding of the ADDIE and SAM models for instructional design, Learning Management Systems and SCORM standards is required.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, One Note), Office 365 and SharePoint (or other similar collaboration tools), and graphical tools that enables to the ability to organize complex ideas visually.

  • Familiarity with content authoring tools and software, such as Articulate 360, Camtasia, MS Office is required.

  • Demonstrated project leadership skills and highly effective staff management experience is preferred.

  • Organizational change management and/or large project change management experience is preferred.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $135,000 to $232,300.

The compensation and benefits information set forth in this posting applies to candidates hired in the United States. Candidates hired outside the United States will be eligible for compensation and benefits in accordance with their local market.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

  • Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year.

  • Sick time – up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year.

  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year.

  • Work, Personal and Family Time – up to 40 hours per calendar year.
