We are seeking a Marine Policy Officer to join our UK marine policy team at this exciting time.
The team are at the forefront of marine conservation, working on marine spatial planning,
offshore wind, fisheries, blue carbon and protected areas.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to join RSPB’s UK marine team for 1 year with the
possibility of extension (dependent on funding) and we’re particularly keen to hear from
candidates with experience within the offshore wind sector. This role will look to:

  • Drive changes in the way we spatially plan our seas and deliver nature positive offshore wind.
  • Work to reduce the impact of offshore renewables through working with the sector to better
    understand and deliver effective mitigation measures and design standards.
  • Be central in supporting our work with Birdlife Europe and Central Asia, driving positive
    action for nature at a sea basin level.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience: 

  • A good understanding of environment / biodiversity legislation
  • A good understanding of the role of public facing communications/campaigns in supporting
    advocacy
  • Able to analyse complex issues in a fast paced environment 
  • Effective negotiation and influencing skills
  • Excellent communication skills, including an ability to speak confidently and cogently in
    public to a variety of audiences, including those with opposing views
  • Confident and capable of being a public face for RSPB policy
  •  Strong time management, prioritisation and organisational skills
  • Able to act independently to generate and lead on policy positions and project development
  • Able to form effective teams (both internal and external) and work effectively as a team
    leader and a team player

This is a 12 month Contract, Full Time role for 37.5 hours per week. The RSPB reserves the
right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business
needs at the end of the contract term.
