Lead Release Train Engineer (RTE) – Digital Commerce (aka RED train)
Business environment
Traveler Touchpoints & Experience Engineering (TRU-ALT-ENG-TTX) aims at defining and developing all the technology necessary to power the online experience of airline travelers allowing airlines to excel in online retailing.
This scope includes Orchestration Engines (inc. booking & servicing engine, self-service check-in, and disruption), optimized APIs for direct channels, Web touchpoints, Mobile Apps and service
center a.k.a. “future of ARD”.
This scope is also complemented by powerful customization tools allowing airlines to constantly optimize their direct channels via no-code and code approaches.
All cloud enabled, backed up by standard and open technology friendly to most developers.
To do so, Digital is interfacing with many other Amadeus teams who own, maintain and deliver the corresponding enablers of a delightful traveler experience (e.g. offer, order, payment, platform).
Alongside the move to the cloud with Curiosity, the customer commitments with the PSS and NGA that is coming, our big focus is on Digital Experience Suite (DES) our digital platform that will replace e-Retail and will bring the flexibility and openness expected by the airlines.
Thanks to this journey to the platform world, the digital business counts today 125 airline customers and behind them millions of users of airline Digital assets powered by our product (Web touchpoints, Mobile
Apps, service center tools). A lot of of growth has been seen recently through services deals (as well called digital labs).
As a result, our teams regroup 800 people mainly from ALT-ENG-TTX and ALT-ENG-SER that are dispatched in several Agile Release Trains coordinated by a large solution layer.
This present job position is about the role of RTE within the Digital Orchestration Engine Tain (aka “RED train”) that is encopassing all the deliveries related to Digital Commerce and that are the fundations on backend side for Amadeus DES product and instrumental in Nevio.
The role: Agile Servant Leadership
- Be a change Agent for the airline Retailing Transformation
- Create an environment of mutual influence, encourage personal development and support the commitment made by the train
- Foster T Shaping within the train
- Support the team members and train organization to be bolder, faster and go further
- Listen and support people on problem identification and decision making
- Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets
- Encourage collaboration between teams and System and Solution Architects/Engineering
- Use cross-functional perspective to improve processes within the train and with the external stakeholders.
The Role: Ensure and Optimize Value delivery with the ART
- Ensure predictability of the train, availability and transparency of the train’s SAFe artifacts
- Manage and optimize the flow of value through the release train
- Budget definition and dispatch, implementation of the lean budgeting
- Provide input on resourcing to address critical bottlenecks
- Track and communicate key ART execution metrics
- Facilitate Agile Release Train events, System Demos and Solution Demos
- Establish and communicate the annual calendars for Iterations and Program Increments (PIs)
- Foster Communities of Practice and the use of engineering and Built-In Quality practices
- Summarize Team PI Objectives into Program PI Objectives and publish them for visibility and transparency
- Ensure Quality of delivery, and leverage customer feedback
- Work with Product and Solution Management, Product Owners and other stakeholders to help ensuring strategy and execution alignment
- Facilitate PI Planning readiness by fostering a Continuous Exploration process which drives the synthesis of a Vision, a Roadmap, and Backlogs, and through Pre- and Post-PI Planning meetings
- Manage risk and dependencies of the ART
- Drive relentless improvement via Inspect and Adapt workshops; assess the agility level of the ART and Solution Train and help them improve
The role: foster Agile Methodologies and Mindset
- Promote continuous education, mentoring and provides training and coaching to improve effectiveness of the Agile teams
- Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets
- Foster decentralizes decision making. Collaborate with team decisions: Trust and empower local teams to make the local design decisions that adapt to changing needs without waiting for architects to produce new designs
- Drive relentless improvement via Inspect and Adapt workshops; assess the agility level of the ART and Solution Train and help them improve
- Facilitate PI Planning readiness by fostering a Continuous Exploration process which drives the synthesis of a Vision, a Roadmap, and Backlogs, and through Pre- and Post-PI Planning meetings
- Foster Communities of Practice and the use of engineering and Built-In Quality practices
About the ideal candidate:
- Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science
- Relevant Work Experience:
o 7+ years of professional experience in software development disciplines
o Experience designing or building connectivity/integration between systems, API integration patterns
o Exposure to senior and top management through (VPs, Directors) is a plus
o Experience in team management (line or agile, ex scrum master, RTE, coaching)
- Skills:
o Good knowledge of Amadeus environment (PSS overall and e-Commerce…)
o Experience in designing and building IT systems
o Knowledge of cloud provider environments (MS Azure is a plus)
- Other:
o Leadership skills: engagement, motivation, goal setting
o Ability to define a vision/direction and communicate it
o Risk taking: ability to take moderate risk and encourage team members to do so
o Strong capacity for logical thinking and the ability to understand complex applications
