The Opportunity

Community Energy South is looking for an experienced team player who excels in supporting
community groups to achieve big outcomes. As a Project Coordinator you will play a leading role
in delivering our three-year National Lottery funded project ‘Community Energy People’. You
will also support the wider objectives of our Community Energy Pathways Programme.

As part of this you will provide professional support for community energy groups to grow their
organisations, helping them to deliver energy efficiency projects, generate locally owned
renewable energy and develop their capability in being employers, gaining funding and engaging
diverse communities.

Community Energy South was set up in 2013 to support the network of community energy groups in
the Southeast of England. Our mission is to enable and empower local communities to play a key
role in the net zero transition through renewable energy projects, energy efficiency and
retrofit.

We act as a catalyst and capacity building hub for community energy groups to become resilient
and to work effectively to support their communities in reducing carbon emissions and boosting
local economies.

recognised by Community Energy England with the Leading Sector Support Award. We are committed
to advancing community driven initiatives in England and are recognised by Community Energy

As a Project Coordinator, you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting community energy groups to recruit and retain staff and volunteers.
  • Coordinating training and skills development for the community energy groups.
  • Supporting the planning of local events and development of engagement programmes.
  • Collaborating with Local Authority staff to secure project outcomes for groups in their
    locality.
  • Working with wider team members to develop marketing and communications materials needed by
    the groups.
  • Monitoring the project delivery plan to keep track of progress.
  • Supporting the groups to ensure that they have effective advice in place for governance,
    payroll, HR and IT requirements.
  • Assisting the groups to advocate for themselves with local policy makers, academia and
    trades so they can further their outcomes and come into alignment with CES regional and
    national advocacy.
  • Collating project data and reports in line with the Social Value Portal system and
    contractor hired for impact and evaluation services, and monitoring performance against the
    project KPIs.
  • Supporting the project manager to keep track of the budget, payments and reporting.
  • Supporting project managers throughout the Community Energy Pathways Programme to deliver
    related outcomes.
  • To undertake wider related tasks relating to the delivery of the project

Reporting to: Project Manager

Working with: Community Energy Pathways Team, Technical Team, Engagement and
Design Manager.

Location: Based in Lewes, East Sussex with hybrid working. Required to be in the office at least once
weekly.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • A proactive people person with experience in supporting the development of community
    projects.
  • Experience in delivering communications and engagement programmes with ability to
    communicate with hard-to-reach groups.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in domestic retrofit, energy advice programmes and/or community
    led renewable energy generation

Desirable:

  • Experience in delivering training and skills development programmes
  • Degree in related subject, or equivalent work-related experience
