This position is opened within the Anticipation & Architecture team within Schneider Digital’s Intelligent Edge organization, which supports innovation and platforming program for Schneider Electric Business Units and Lines of Business on their Industrial IoT offers.
Within the Intelligent Edge organization, “Software Defined Edge Control” (SDEC) is a strategic technology disruption program. It aims at exploring the “Software Defined” approach at Edge level for simplifying the design and commissioning of a customer’s OT system, as well as its maintenance and evolution once operational.
The Principal System Engineering Architect focusing on “Software Defined” approach at edge is
in charge of defining and managing the Virtualization topic, acting as Subject Matter Expert. “Virtualization” refers here to both virtual machines and container based approaches, used separately or in combination, depending on use cases and corresponding requirements.
Duties and responsibilities
The Principal System Engineering Architect focusing on “Software Defined” approach at edge is
part of SDEC program. He will be coordinating with other SDEC team members to ensure the full complementary in their respective activities. Especially the ones related to System Orchestration topic.
He will be working closely with the representatives of Curling, LeINA and Smarter Edge programs (so called “client programs”) within Energy Management business unit to define together the end to end architecture and select accordingly the appropriate technologies; and to define the deliverables to be provided by the SDEC team.
He will be working also with POs and Architects of Edge System Management and EdgeOS (mostly Execution Environment layer) platforms to prepare the proper landing of SDEC deliverables within these platforms: ensure the full consistency and complementary with what is already in place, define how to integrate them as well as how and when.
The ideal candidate will come with a strong expertise on virtualization and networking technologies – with a focus on the Linux execution environment – in the context of mixed critical systems combining both real-time/safety and best effort applications.

Qualifications
Graduate or Post-graduate degree in computer science and system engineering.
Professional Experience and Competences
- 10+ years of work experience within complex industrial systems with real-time and/or safety constraints
- Excellent knowledge in the field of embedded software development (RTOS, Linux)
- Strong knowledge of system engineering best practices and related methodologies & tools
- Strong knowledge of components used in digital platforms (microprocessors and microcontrollers, memories, etc.) as well as the architectures and internal functioning of processors
- Strong C/C++ development skills
- Strong networking experience
- Experience on cyber security, in particular in the industrial domain (e.g. IEC 62443) would be appreciated
- Experienced in creating and assessing reference architectures.
- Knowledge of industrial application level standards, such as IEC 61850 and OPC UA
