The utilization of digital technologies such as big data or artificial intelligence in organizations increasingly prompts questions about their ramifications. Embracing the concept of digital sustainability, our research aims to delve into how digital technologies intersect with environmental, societal, and governance (ESG) objectives. We are particularly interested in the enabling role digital technologies can take to achieve ESG objectives, while also considering potential trade-offs in the face of competing interests of different stakeholders. By utilizing secondary data and computationally intensive methods, we aim to contribute to a stakeholder perspective on the broader ramifications of using digital technologies in organizations.The PhD position is embedded in the research programmes Innovation & Organization (I&O) and Accounting of FEB’s Research Institute. The project will be jointly supervised by Jan Hennig (promoter) and Nicolai Fabian.QualificationsThe ideal candidate is ambitious, highly motivated and wishes to make a career in research. He or she has a thorough training in research skills, speaks and writes English fluently and has obtained excellent results in the master phase.
The PhD candidate should have a background (MSc, research master) in business or management, psychology, social sciences, economics/econometrics or any other (quantitative) social science discipline. We are also open to backgrounds in engineering or computer science. For the project, we are looking for someone with an interest in quantitative research. Ideally, the candidate already has knowledge of quantitative and/or programming skills. More importantly we are looking for candidates with the willingness to develop these skills as part of their PhD trajectory.Conditions of employmentWe offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

  • a gross monthly salary from a minimum of € 2,901 which increases yearly to a maximum of € 3,707
  • an additional 8% holiday allowance each year in May, and an additional 8.3 % end of year bonus in December
  • a temporary full-time appointment for a period of four years, under the condition of a positive assessment at the end of the first year.
