Automatic microstructure recognition and analysis applied to steels
Company:
Job description
Offer DescriptionIMDEA Materials has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral research position on computer vision and machine learning approaches to microstructure recognition and analysis applied to steels. The Advanced Characterization Program aims at developing toos for the automatic microstructural analysis of advanced steels with complex microstructures. One of the approaches relies on the use of advanced characterization tools and correlative microscopy (optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, electron backscatter diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-Ray diffraction, nanoindentation, etc.), in order to enrich the information content for the same field of view and to capitalize this multimodal information. The candidate will lead the activities in this area, in close collaboration with industrial partners, including steel manufacturers. He/she will have full access to state-of-the-art characterization equipment and will be encouraged to interact with our industrial partners and external collaborators. He/she will also be given the opportunity to supervise undergrad/master’s students.Where to apply WebsiteRequirementsSpecific Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in advanced microstructural characterisation of metallic alloys, preferably steels.
- PhD in materials science, metallurgy, physics, or a related discipline
- Experience in image analysis is recommended (thresholding, filtering, registration, etc.)
- Experience in machine learning / computer vision methods is recommended, but not a prerequsite. The candidate however should have interest in programming
- Command of written and spoken English is a prerequisite.
