Offer DescriptionApplications are invited for a temporary post of a Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or 2 within UCD School of Earth Sciences.
Job reference number: 018057We are seeking a motivated geoscientist for 2.5 years (30 months) with an interest in geological storage applications to join the Sustainable GeoEnergy Research Group at UCD. The purpose of the role is to deliver a specific research project. This role will focus on the Ireland’s offshore sedimentary basins which are of substantial interest for geological storage to decarbonise the energy system and provide seasonal energy storage. The role will focus on the reservoir and seal characterisation of both saline aquifers and depleted gas fields. This study aims to map the extent, depth and nature of Ireland’s offshore geostorage complexes, and characterise reservoir and seal heterogeneity that may impact safe long-term geological storage. The role will include interpretation of well data, wireline log analysis, core analysis, for the evaluation of reservoir properties and heterogeneity, and tectonostratigraphic evolution of the sequences. The role will be part of a team who will deliver comprehensive regional and detailed maps of geological storage areas, risk assessments and storage volumes. The project outputs will include peer-reviewed publications and a national database of maps and properties for evaluation of CO2, hydrogen and energy storage.POST DOC LEVEL 1 Salary Range: €45,847 – €51,313 per annumPOST DOC LEVEL 2 Salary Range: €52,715 – €57,332 per annumAppointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.Closing date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on the 17th of January 2025.
