Offer DescriptionThe multidisciplinary Sustainable Materials Engineering (SUME) research group of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) is seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral research associate to join our team. This full-time position involves innovative research at the intersection of atomistic modelling and machine learning, with a focus on understanding, designing and optimization of solid-state electrolyte, and electrode/electrolyte interfaces. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of machine learning interatomic potential, and AI-enhanced multi-scale, multi-physics modeling techniques, advancing the study of complex interfaces and aging mechanisms in next-generation battery systems.DescriptionYou will work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural research group, with people from all over the world, uniting all languages and cultures in one large community, oriented to study Materials and electrochemical processes by combining both modelling and experimental approaches. The aim of the project is to develop machine learning interatomic potential for designing and optimization of next-generation batteries to accelerate developments in a cost-effective way.Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct advanced research using molecular simulation and machine learning to explore solid-state electrolytes, and electrode/electrolyte interfaces.
- Develop AI-enhanced, multi-scale, and multi-physics models to study interfacial phenomena and battery aging mechanisms.
- Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present results at international conferences.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in research methodologies and techniques.
- Collaborate with academic and industrial partners across Europe as part of a large-scale project.

- Experience in collaborative, interdisciplinary research environments.
