Its turbogas fleet is already capable of burning between 40 and 70 per cent hydrogen, with the aim of reaching 100 per cent by 2030.The green evolution of the Ansaldo Energia portfolio goes hand in hand with product diversification – intended to broaden the Group scope of activity and cover new power generation and preservation technologies.This mission is assigned to Ansaldo Green Tech – a Company focused on the energy transition business, incorporated in 2021 and fully owned by Ansaldo Energia, which has inherited from Ansaldo Energia specific know-how and capabilities.PositionScope:Within a broader electrolysis system product development program, define, follow up and guide technical activities to reach the performance goals for the electrochemical stack. Areas of focus are technology scouting, material selection, stack engineering, multiphysics modelling, prototyping and validation testing.Main activities:– Coordinate and oversee the development activities related to electrochemical stack engineering, providing improvements roadmap in accordance with the company strategic vision.– Identify, assess, and manage technical risks associated with stack development projects.– Set and monitor performance benchmarks for stack products to meet technical and commercial requirements.– Identify the areas of improvements of the current design to maximize the performance (electrodes improvements, membrane selection, stack architecture, etc.)– Lead material selection and coordinate laboratory activities to ensure optimal performance and durability of electrochemical stacks.– Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of stack technology into final products.– Develop and maintain detailed documentation of design processes, testing protocols, and performance evaluations.– Stay updated with the latest advancements in electrochemical technology (e.g. low-TRL innovation available in the industrial and scientific community) and incorporate relevant innovations into development projects.– Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and support staff.Requirements-Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.-Proven experience (7+ years) in electrochemical stack engineering, electrolyzers, fuel cells and related technologies.-Strong knowledge of electrochemical principles and material science.-Experience with performance setting and optimization of electrochemical stacks.-Demonstrated ability to manage technical risks in complex development programs.-Excellent problem-solving skills-Strong project management and organizational skills.-Effective written and oral communication and collaboration abilities.Nice to have– Experience in planning, conducting, coordinating and/or interpreting the results of the main experimental techniques for characterization of electrochemical systems (3 electrode testing, cyclic voltammetry, EIS, AST, Chronopotentiometry, etc.)– Experience in microscopical investigation techniques (optical, SEM, EDS, XRF, Raman, ICP, etc.)– Experience in durability and damage modelling– Experience in finite element techniques for mechanical integrity verification and computational fluid dynamics– Experience in component drawing reading, CAD software– Experience in electrochemical stack design criteria– Experience in large scale electrolyzer design/assembly or scale-up projects from small to large size– Knowledge of state of the art supply chain for electrolyzers parts– Understanding of balance of plant engineering and design– Understanding of control systems– Experience in public funded project application, conduction and reporting (preferably EU projects)– Understanding of industrialization concept, automatic production, quality concepts (lean, agile, kaizen, six sigma, etc.)– Understanding of coating deposition technologies and techniques– Attitude with scientific and academic communities, ability in reading and understanding academic literature and interacting with academic partner.
