Position DescriptionRenewables Operations & Maintenance (O&M) is a department within ESB Generation and Trading with responsibility for the management of the operation and maintenance of ESB’s Onshore wind and distributed generation asset portfolio.As part of delivery of the Net Zero by 2040 Strategy it is our ambition that we will generate 70% of our electricity generation from renewable assets by 2030 with 1.7GW of offshore wind, 3.5GW of onshore wind, 900MW of solar and to also incorporate 500 MW of renewables enabling flexible generation assets including battery energy storage systems, peaking plants, and grid support devices such as synchronous condensers.Due to the projected significant expansion of the Onshore wind and distributed Generation portfolio over the coming years, ESB is seeking to appoint a Site Manager within the Renewables O&M Site Operations team in the south-west region.The role of the Renewables Site Manager is to represent the O&M interests of ESB as the asset owner of operational sites and to contribute to the mobilization process of projects under construction to ensure the safe and smooth transition of projects from energization into commercial operations. The operational and new sites will be a combination of both renewable and renewable enabling technologies. This position offers candidates an exciting opportunity to join an expanding business area and gain significant site and commercial experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for onsite operations for Wind farms and Synchronous Condenser plant in the South Clare/ North Kerry/South Limerick area and will act in a backup site manager capacity for other renewables sites in the south-west region.This is a challenging and autonomous role, and the successful candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. They should have a demonstratable ability to communicate and relate effectively with staff at all levels of the organization.Responsibilities will be as per business needs and flexibility to adapt to these needs will be a core requirement of this role.Key ResponsibilitiesThe Key responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to the following:

  • Management of site safety, site operations and control of access to Renewable O&M Generation assets.
  • Ensure safety and environmental obligations are met for efficient operation of plant on those sites, including local onsite operation of plant and electrical switching duties as required.
  • Implement and maintain plant procedures, site policies and safety programs.
  • Provide a timely site response capability in the event of an issue developing on a site that is remotely monitored. It is a requirement of this role that the Renewables Site Manager would participate in an on-call Rota. Requirement to respond to alarms and events on the site during normal and outside normal working hours.
  • Management of service providers and contractors onsite including performing inductions and setting to work as required.
  • Manage, administer, and ensure compliance with the ESB Safety Rules in operation. Perform role of Work Controller (WC) and Safety from the System Coordinator (SSC) in accordance with the ESB Generation & Trading Safe System of Work (SSoW) Safety Rules after successful training, assessment, and approval in the position.
  • Management of warranty issues associated with Renewable O&M Generation assets.
  • Support optimization of lifetime O&M and asset management planning and costs within budgets.
  • Undertake ad hoc projects as assigned in the O&M area.
  • Outage and project management as required.
  • Support other Site Managers as required.
  • Support asset transfer and integration of renewables assets into the existing operational portfolio during project construction and mobilization phases where required.
  • Support Renewable O&M Generation asset re-powering/lifetime extension projects as required.

Experience and QualificationsEssentialThe successful candidate will:

  • Have a minimum of 5 years’ work experience in operation and maintenance of generation plant and/or wind farms.
  • A Technical or Engineering Qualification (preferably Mechanical/Electrical) or equivalent experience with plant operation and maintenance.
  • Be assertive and have excellent communication skills.
  • Have a strong safety and risk management focus.
  • Be flexible and service motivated.
  • Have strong reporting and documentation skills.
  • Have ability to work on own initiative and develop and improve procedures.
  • Capability to work at heights.
  • Working knowledge of computerized control systems.
  • Be willing to work flexible hours (office and on site) to accommodate site mobilization and operational requirements.
  • Ability to work on own initiative in isolated locations.

Desirable

  • Experience of isolating plant and equipment under safety rules.
  • CMMS experience.
  • Trained, authorized, and experienced in ESB Generation and Trading SSoW Safety Rules.
  • Understanding of the commercial side of the generation business.
  • Experience in front line maintenance activities.

Location

  • The successful candidate will be required to be based and living within reasonable proximity of the sites in the south-west region (no more than 90 minutes commute)
  • Travel to and from other renewable sites, and irregular travel to ESB Head Office in Dublin will be a feature.
