Above all, we will ensure our approach offers a deep sense of safety/respect, through a supportive, uplifting environment, that helps prisoners to see their potential and that unlocks a brighter future for all.Job objectives and responsibilitiesAs a Trainee psychologist you will work directly with prisoners, staff and various stakeholders under the supervision of a Registered Forensic Psychologist and Principal Psychologist.As a trainee you will undertake a variety of supervised work to gain experience and develop competency in working towards becoming a registered practitioner. This includes undertaking risk assessments and clinical assessments, writing professional reports and providing evidence as a professional witness at Parole Board hearings. It also includes delivering accredited programmes, designing bespoke formulation-driven interventions and undertaking research and consultancy projects to provide psychologically informed solutions to support our rehabilitative and restorative environments. You may also be required to provide training to multi-disciplinary staff or co facilitate training with some of your operational colleagues. Psychologists in training employed by Mitie may undertake training via one of several accredited routes and financial provision will be made towards the costs of the recognised registration route. Our trainees will be provided with a range of opportunities to progress and are expected to use these to the best advantage of their training and development. They are responsible for ensuring they are constantly progressing to the level of a registered psychologist. This is a non-operational job with no line management or supervisory responsibilities, however as part of your trainee journey you will need to demonstrate evidence of some level of supervisory skills which may be linked to areas such as keyworker practice or facilitator practice.Person SpecificationThe right candidate will have experience working with individuals in challenging environments, exhibiting complex behaviours, or from vulnerable groups, either as a volunteer or a paid employee. Demonstrated ability to communicate complex and highly sensitive information effectively. Capability to work in emotionally challenging environments and maintain performance under pressure. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Proficiency in utilizing and responding appropriately to supervision.Experience working with individuals within the criminal justice system or those on its fringes is preferred. Ability to provide examples showcasing confidence and competence in group settings or delivering training. Experience in conducting risk assessments or clinical evaluations.Qualifications required in this role include a degree that meets the Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
