Job description
As a volunteer at Livsværkstederne in Gellerup, the most important thing is that you want to do social work with our social economy café as the focal point. The house has many functions and activities that you can be a part of.For 25 years, the Life Workshops in Gellerup have had social and employment-oriented offers for people in vulnerable life situations. Everyone is welcome in our social economy café, Café Vita, where we offer a cheap cup of coffee and light meals prepared from surplus food from the Food Bank. In addition to the café, we have various presentations, trips out of the box, employment offers, free advice and creative offers. We also collaborate closely with many of the area’s other organizations and activities. As a volunteer, you can therefore contribute with what you are good at or would like to learn more about. The most important thing is that you want to make a difference and meet people at eye level!As a volunteer, you can, for example:
- Host our Social Drive Out , where every Wednesday to Friday we cycle out with coffee in the local area and talk to residents and others with connections to the area. It can be anything from informal chats about how things are going to bridge building to our other offerings.
- Help out at Café Vita with everything from preparing vegetables or playing pool with guests to helping out at events. There are many regulars in the café who are always happy to chat over a cup of coffee. The café is open Monday to Thursday from 10 am to 3:30 pm and Friday from 10 am to 3 pm.
- Provide advice . Perhaps you are studying to be a social worker, law or economics and would like to gain experience in supporting people in their contact with the public sector.
- Volunteer in our creative workshop with whatever you want. There is often someone sewing, knitting or drawing, but the workshop is open to whatever you want to offer. The workshop is open Tuesday and Thursday from 12-14.
- Be part of our garden community , Verdenshaverne, where we, together with guests and residents from the area, maintain and develop a community garden with various beds, crops and activities.
- Anything else you would like to contribute – you may want to help with events, create social media or fund applications. We are very open to good ideas!
We offerNo matter where you would like to help, we promise that no two days are ever the same and that people are always eager to talk. There is a cozy, informal and open atmosphere in all our services, and it is an important part of the work to always take the time to meet the users where they are. Our services are open to everyone, and we especially meet elderly people with ethnic minority backgrounds in vulnerable positions. Some also come to the café to practice speaking Danish. Some of our guests have mental or physical challenges, and it is therefore important that you want to go to work with respect, openness and a good mood. In return, you will have the opportunity to take social responsibility and experience a meaningful everyday life through spending time with our guests.As a volunteer, you can therefore offer something you are good at, or practice something you would like to learn.
