Secretary-GeneralCOCIR – European Coordination Committee of the Radiological, Electromedical and Healthcare IT IndustryBrussels, BelgiumCOCIR is the European Trade Association representing the medical imaging, radiotherapy, health ICT and electromedical industries. Founded in 1959, this organization is a non-profit association headquartered in Brussels (Belgium). COCIR’s focus is to represent the interest of the industry in the sector with European institutions and policy makers, and to strive for a global level playing field for the medical device industry in the interest of public health. COCIR is active on areas like regulatory, technical (including product safety and security), market intelligence, sustainability, standardization, research and innovation, international, and legal. COCIR is also a founding member of DITTA, the Global Diagnostic Imaging, Healthcare IT and Radiation Therapy Trade Association ( ).This positionThe Secretary-General is the managerial head of the association, and the operational head of the Brussels office. This function is subject to the directions of the COCIR Board, which reports to the COCIR General Assembly.
The Secretary-General is the voice of COCIR and represents the association vis-à-vis EU policy makers, international policy makers, scientific societies and healthcare professionals, patient groups, media, and related industry associations in healthcare. The Secretary-General also maintains the strong relationship with COCIR members.
The Secretary-General also represents COCIR in DITTA as Board Member.The Secretary-General is particularly responsible for the following:
- External representation and stakeholder management: Develop a focused strategic agenda for COCIR in consultation with the Board to ensure it delivers effective policy advocacy (e.g. EU MDR, EHDS, AI Act, ROHS), member participation in EU’s Innovative Health Initiative projects, and quality market intelligence;
- Trade association operational responsibilities: Day-to-day operations of the trade association, which includes guiding a small but dedicated team and running the office and its core financial and operational processes. The COCIR secretariat is undergoing a substantial transformation, hence particular attention is required for the completion, coaching and shaping of an effective team;
- Governance processes: Organise meetings of the General Assembly and the COCIR Board and ensure the membership meetings such as in the working groups are convened effectively and efficiently;
- Membership relations: Maintain excellent relations with the approximately 40 corporate and National Trade Association members. Furthermore, develop a plan to expand the current membership base.
Candidate Profile and CapabilitiesThe successful candidate is expected to be sharp and focused on delivering measurable results, on providing visions for the sector, and on operational leadership. The COCIR Board is looking for:
- A professional with at least 10 years of experience in the management of industry trade associations, with a strong preference for the medical devices sector. A strong network in the medical device industry as well as in EU and international institutions is a major asset;
- Experience leading a team – Outgoing personality, self-motivated, results oriented, inspiring, and solid team-building leadership skills are required;
- Comfortable to speak in public and in front of large audiences and with high-ranking officials in both industry and public policy;
- Fluent in written and spoken English, with good command of at least one EU language, preferably French;
- Willingness for international travel up to 20%;
- The position is based in Brussels. No relocation package is offered, so living in proximity of Brussels is required.
